Architectural accessibility

The seat of the Metropolitan Office of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis in Katowice is located at 21A Barbara Street, 40-053 Katowice. The coordinator for architectural, digital, and information – communication accessibility is Małgorzata Połap, email: m.polap@metropoliagzm.pl, phone +48 32 718 07 65. There are 3 entrances to the building of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis – the main entrance from Hercena street, a side entrance from Hercena street, and a rear entrance from Szmausa street. Each entrance has stairs. The steps of the entrance stairs are marked with contrasting strips. The stairs throughout the building are equipped with handrails. People in wheelchairs can access the ground floor with the help of stair platforms. The main entrance is intended for guests. The glass doors of the main entrance are marked with contrasting tape. Corridors and rooms throughout the building are accessible to persons in wheelchairs. On the ground floor, there is an elevator adapted for people with disabilities. The elevator is equipped with voice announcements and has buttons marked with Braille. On the ground floor, in the right and left wings of the building, there are toilets for people with disabilities. Also on the ground floor in the left wing, there is a room adapted for a mother with a child. In front of the building there are three parking spaces designated for people with disabilities. It is possible to enter the building and all its rooms with an assistance dog or guide dog. Rooms inside the building are not marked with plaques with embossed numbers and Braille, nor are there contrasting markings or large print for visually impaired persons. There are no floor plans presented by tactile maps in the building. No audio navigation systems for blind persons are used in the building. The building has arrows or illuminated signs indicating evacuation directions.

Communication and information accessibility

A person interested in handling an official matter with the help of a sign language interpreter is required to notify this fact at least 2-3 working days before the planned date of handling the matter.
